Slideshow for web made in Keynote

HOW TO MAKE A STREAMING PRESENTATION FOR THE WEB

LINK: See sample slideshow on YouTube

EXERCISE #1:  CREATE A SHORT SLIDESHOW IN KEYNOTE

1)    Open Keynote and choose a “theme” for your presentations.  Suggestion: Black or White.
2)    Pick a short nursery rhyme to recount in a series of 5-6 slides.  Add text to each slide and adjust font as necessary.
3)    If you would like to add sound, click Inspector, click the icon for the “Document Inspector” (page-like icon on far left). Choose Audio, then you can drag and drop a song from your iTunes library to play for the whole slideshow.
a.    NOTE: You can experiment with sound for in-class presentations and so forth but for web-embedding the export seems to drop the sound files.  Use Keynote for silent video presentations.  In 2 weeks we will cover blogging that will detail audio recording specifically.
4)    When you are ready to export your slideshow follow the next steps:
a.    Choose File>Export.
b.    Click Quicktime at top left to open QT options.
c.    Choose under Playback Uses: Fixed Timing (or “Manual Advance”) and select the number of seconds you want each slide to display for.
i.    Note: Audio applied to the “entire” movie only plays for some absurd reason when “Manual Advance” is selected.  Yet you cannot upload Manual Advance movies to YouTube.
d.    Under Formats, choose “Web Movie Small” or, “CD ROM Movie.”
e.    After clicking “Next” you will be prompted to save your movie in a particular location.

EXERCISE #2: Using YouTube or Wordpress to display your Quicktime Movie.

1)    Login to YouTube and copy the “URL” from your video that is posted there. This link looks something like this: “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4Rx0SEAz5I”
2)    Login to your Wordpress.com account.
3)    Start a new post, and then when you are ready to add video, go up to the “Add Media” buttons and choose “Video” (it is just to the right of the “Image” icon).  All you need to do is to insert your YouTube URL.
